BlackMars Capital GmbH is the holding company for a group of technology companies located in Europe. The company was founded in 2012 and is owned by a small group of investors. The closed shareholder structure enables the company to bear the full risk for early-stage companies with the aim of creating sustainable value for shareholders and exciting career opportunities for employees. BlackMars is headquartered in Koenigstein im Taunus, Germany.
Marco Beckmann co-founded BlackMars and heads the firm as its managing director. Marco is a serial founder, investor and film enthusiast. He funds disruptive ideas at the forefront of technology. He loves game-changing tech companies and has more than 15 years of investment experience in various sectors including nanotechology, life science, IT and media. Marco began his professional career while still at university as an advisor for an internationally invested equity fund specializing in nanotechnology. With this fund, he led more than 60 investments in public and private nanotech companies.
Marco has authored three books on nanotechnology investing, including the world’s first book on the subject, published in 2001.
In 2003, he founded one of the first nanotech venture capital firms and served as its chief executive officer until 2014. In a few short years, he has built the firm into one of the world’s leading venture capital investors specializing in nanotechnology and developed a global portfolio of legendary nanotech companies from Silicon Valley to Asia and joint funds with the government of Singapore, among others.
He has served as BlackMars Capital’s managing director since 2014, with full responsibility for the firm’s portfolio. His most recent investments cover cloud computing, life sciences, blockchain and e-mobility. Marco holds several board seats and was an early investor in Arrowhead Research (Nasdaq: ARWR), Arryx (sold to Haemonetics), BioMicro (sold to Roche) and NanoGram (sold to Teijin). With a track record of more than 20 IPOs and trade sales of portfolio companies to multinational corporations in Europe, the US and Asia, he is bringing both his network and vast experience to unlock long-term growth for BlackMars’ portfolio companies.
Natalie Urbanska – Head of Operations
In her capacity as Head of Operations, Natalie oversees all projects within the BlackMars Group and is responsible for the direction and coordination of these.
Natalie holds a master’s degree in mathematics from the Goethe University of Frankfurt/Main, Germany. Her major focus area is Probability Theory and Computational Finance and their application to real-world pricing data of investment vehicles.
Therefore, the topic of her master‘s thesis examined how Monte Carlo Methods for security pricing behave. From an early age on, she has had a keen interest in mathematics and investments. Yet, she is a practical mathematician with extensive experience in sales and solicitation. Before joining BlackMars Capital, Natalie worked for a publicly traded company in the capital markets department.
Kim Meininger – Senior Project Manager
Kim is in charge of specific projects within the company's portfolio and is as well dedicated to the design, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of the process of administrative work within BlackMars Capital.
Kim graduated successfully at Griffith College in Dublin, Ireland and holds a master's degree in International Business Management.
Her studies focused on business strategies, in particular, the Blue Ocean Business Strategy and its application in the economic system within the current situation. Furthermore she is experienced in analyzing, managing and coordinating projects, as well as optimizing internal processes. Because of her intercultural competence, Kim worked for various international clients, such as Daimler Greater China Ltd.
